North College Crossing 

The off-campus student housing shortage at the University of Delaware has created a high demand for newly built units, located close to the campus, with high-end amenities. A ground-level retail space with multiple high-end apartments on upper levels was the project goal.  The architectural program design solution encompassed the building’s footprint, interior design, and exterior design.  The building maximized frontage along North College Avenue to capitalize on foot traffic and incorporated an “L” shaped building to incorporate the best use of the triangular-like lot, utilized the rear for ground-level covered parking and appropriate right of ways.  The interior design purposefully reflected the student lifestyle housing trends to include private bedrooms, high-end kitchens with granite and stainless-steel appliances, a large common area for shared space, spacious bathrooms with double vanities, marble countertops, in-unit mechanical controls, and metal railed balconies.  The exterior design echoes campus buildings and features large expanses of exterior walls rising four stories and is created with dimension and multiple textures including high-end brick, synthetic stucco, and concrete block wall systems.  Retail space on the ground floor has been designed for a restaurant and hair salon and features modern black exterior awnings.
